Who: Clint Barton and Natasha Romanov
What: Notes: Backstory: Budapest
hawkinhisnest
and the follow-up? what happened in Budapest? :-P
Natasha!mun
Haha. I was going to ask you the same thing.
:-P
hawkinhisnest
XD asked you first! nyeh nyeh nyeh ;-)
Natasha!mun
I answered the last one first!
hawkinhisnest
pbthhhh. hrm.
hawkinhisnest
man, Clint won't even give me much. I have a feeling it involved him getting his ass completely whooped, though.
based on the fact that he's like "yeahhhhhh, no" :-P
Natasha!mun
Natasha won't tell me much, either. :-P
Though, I imagine it was a little less bad for her. Or she likes to pretend it is.
Natasha!mun
Hence her being all "This is just like Budapest! >.>"
hawkinhisnest
*NOD* was gonna say: that line comes when they're under heavy fire but actually fighting back, and she's a lot more "hey, remember that time we did such and such?.... yeah, good times *happy sighs*" to Clint's "yeah, I remember the back of the cop car and the hangover the next day, TYVM"
metaphorically speaking :-P
Natasha!mun
Haha, yeah.
XD
hawkinhisnest
heh. that could've been their "holy shit we're not dead" moment :-P
Natasha!mun
I ... think it was.
hawkinhisnest
okay, now he's grudgingly giving me at least impressions: I have a feeling it might have been the first time she saw him get hurt? like "might not survive this" hurt
Natasha!mun
*nods*
She ... probably went a little apeshit in the scary, cold sort of way, too, and took out ALL THE GUYS! Or ... something.
hawkinhisnest
*nod* ....okay. I'm just... off the top of my head stuffs: so there's a mission, and they have to split up for whatever reason - either they knew they were going to have to, or there's two marks and they have to to keep up with both of them, or... I don't think they split up because of "hoshit, we're made, split up and meet up later" reasons, since it was supposed to be an easy thing. but then I think things did go south. and maybe she knew he was hurt, and knew it was bad, and maybe standing orders were to get to the choppa, but taking out ALL THE GUYS happened instead
and then Fury yelled moar but was Secretly Pleased
Natasha!mun
I want to say there were two marks. It was probably discussed, briefly, that they might need to split up, but neither one of them really thought it would happen, because it was supposed to be an easy thing. And then it was like " ... well, shit. Okay, um. Plan B?" "Guess so."
Natasha!mun
And yeah. I think standing orders were get to the choppa.
hawkinhisnest
that works *nods*
Natasha!mun
And then, yeah. Clint getting hurt. Natasha shooting all the people. Fury being all GRR ARGH, while yeah, being pleased.
hawkinhisnest
yus
Natasha!mun
... and yeah, that's totally "I remember the back of the cop car and the hangover." *amused as hell*
hawkinhisnest
XD
hawkinhisnest
yeah... though hm. I'm not sure if he got made or if like.. someone else was after his mark too and he got caught in crossfire.
I don't think he was ever anyone's hostage/prisoner; whatever happened, think he managed to get away and hole up somewhere, but I don't think he even expected to survive it. think he figured she'd get out and at least that part would go right
Natasha!mun
I ... want to say the latter, if only because it would explain why their marks split up. Like ... maybe they made whoever else was after them, but not them, and decided to split up.
And yeah, no, I don't think he was, either.
hawkinhisnest
right, right
he's... ugh, the issues on this team, and typical sniper mindset, doing everything solo. I don't think he'd ever had anyone that actually had his back, considering his life pre-S.H.I.E.L.D.
Natasha!mun
*pets him gently*
hawkinhisnest
*does, too*
hawkinhisnest
...and I think the injury was like...arrow to the knee something that he was gonna bleed to death. like.. IDK - blown through a window and got wood/glass in his leg that if he pulled it out, he would've been dead pretty much immediately but it was gonna happen eventually anyway
and the fact that he didn't want me to type that makes me think I'm right
Natasha!mun
*snorts at arrow to the knee. ahem* Well, there's a major ... artery -- vein? not sure which is right, I just know that it's important -- in the thigh, so ...
hawkinhisnest
femoral artery *nod*
Natasha!mun
There we go.
:-P
Natasha!mun
I blanked out there for a second.
hawkinhisnest
XD
hawkinhisnest
so yeah. relatively minor injury, in the grand scheme of things, but you're good and fucked if it happens when you're alone
Natasha!mun
Yeeeeeeeeeah.
You think they had comms? Or you think it was like ... "Call in [insert time here] to check in" and then Clint didn't call and then she showed up after killing ALL THE GUYS and was all " ... you didn't answer your phone"?
hawkinhisnest
hm..... the second feels more right?
or more like them
Natasha!mun
*nods* What I was thinking.
hawkinhisnest
or if they did have comms, he lost his at some point
(and fuck, now I want to write this :-P )
Natasha!mun
Heh. Me, too.
And their first meeting stuffs.
hawkinhisnest
*nodnod*
hawkinhisnest
because like.. I have a feeling he didn't make it easy for her to find him (out of wherever he holed up being hard for the Bad Guys to find him, too), but maybe she found his comm in the ruins of whatever happened and then went to "okay, and now we find where he would've gone"
Natasha!mun
*nods*
And it would have been a combination of, like ... knowing him well enough by that point and following what little he did leave in the way of clues.
hawkinhisnest
*nodnod*
(heh, I also have a feeling she totally bagged both marks in the process :-P )
Natasha!mun
She did.
:-P
hawkinhisnest
"and now you're going to sit there and wait for the guys in suits to show up and deal with you. I have more important things to do" :-P
Natasha!mun
^
hawkinhisnest
pretty sure Clint also would've tried to shoot her, when she did find him. because 1) way out of it from blood loss 2) not expecting rescue 3) shoot the first person coming for you, and whoever's behind them is going to shoot you, and therefore, yay no torture. also pretty sure he completely missed even without her needing to dodge, which. back to 1), there :-P
Natasha!mun
And then she kept snarking at him the entire time, to keep him awake, until help showed up.
:-P
hawkinhisnest
yep XD
hawkinhisnest
and yeah *adds them to the list* :-P
sorry, got distracted by the California Cheese ad :-P was gonna say: speaking of Budapest - I got the feeling from Clint on this viewing that like.. Natasha might have thought he was dead, at some point? like, one of the people she took down was all "oh, him? yeah, he's dead" - either because they didn't know who she really meant or because they were screwing with her. because I got the feeling from him she like.. nearly burned the city to the ground :-P
Natasha!mun
She did.
She's ... like a force of nature when she's really, truly upset.
hawkinhisnest
*nodnod*
hawkinhisnest
(keep typing, but brb)
Natasha!mun
Heh. Top ten reasons why Natasha really shouldn't be uncomfortable around Bruce? If he really upset her, she'd find a way to destroy him. :-P
And yes. That's all ten.
Natasha!mun
... or at least make his life very, very miserable.
hawkinhisnest
*nod*
*pets them both*
Natasha!mun
*does, too*
hawkinhisnest
I just especially feel that the background we came up with for that is right, now, thinking that 1) Clint got the joy of nearly dying and 2) the real joy of realizing how much she cared for him and what lengths she'd go to and so on - but it was also a little bit... overwhelming?
so he's going "...whoa" to her "yes, and what about it?" :-P
Natasha!mun
Well, he ... saved her, on so many levels.
And that ... doesn't quite do it justice in my head.
And yeah, I think she was lying, both to herself and to Loki, when she said love was for children, but ... she meant it when she said she owed Clint a debt.
And I don't think she feels she'll ever be able to settle that.
Natasha!mun
So ... you have the first person who ever treated her like more than a weapon, the person she's in love with and the person she owes everything she is now to.
hawkinhisnest
*nod*
hawkinhisnest
I noticed it, but especially so this time - the scene where he's coming down, during the "now you sound like you" "but you don't", where he asks what Loki did to her and then goes "Tasha", and she just looks at him, and it was just.. *flaps hands* they might never actually say "I love you", but the look she gives him right there.....
Natasha!mun
*NODNODNOD*
A lot of their communication is so ridiculously subtle -- glances, gestures, touches -- because they know each other that well.
hawkinhisnest
*nodnod*
Natasha!mun
Also. While we're on the subject ... how long ago do you think their first meeting was? Or how old do you think they were? Whichever.
hawkinhisnest
...hrm.
hawkinhisnest
*thinks*
hawkinhisnest
exact age, I'm not sure... and I'm... kinda torn. part of me wants to say it's been a while, since she was pretty young and they're both late 20s/early 30s, now, but... I don't feel like it's been as long since Budapest, and the way she talks about her past still makes it seem kinda raw, for her (assuming she wasn't just playing Loki, there)
Natasha!mun
*nods*
I'm torn, too, which is why I asked.
:-P
Natasha!mun
Because ... part of me keeps trying to make her practically a kid when they first met. Like ... 18 or 19. And then I'm like " ... that's kind of creepy young." And yeah, with the raw feeling.
hawkinhisnest
hm... making her early 20s might make sense? if they were passing her off as a principle dancer. because most of them retire around 30. and that's old enough for her to have been doing it so long that it's just... that's all she is.
Natasha!mun
*nods*
hawkinhisnest
even if she did start spying super young, 18/19 still feels a little young for her to have "settled" into it
Natasha!mun
Yeah, definitely. Early 20s feels right, though, for more than just the fact that most dancers retire around 30. It means she'd be old enough to get close to men as a sexual object without being creepy -- though, I have this feeling that started before she hit consensual age. It means she'd have time for Fury to have come to trust her enough to deal with something as sensitive as Tony, among other things, and time enough to develop her rapport with Clint. She'd still be young enough that it just ... clicks with my gut instinct, though. And it'd be less than ten years, which leaves time for there to be that rawness, still.
hawkinhisnest
*NOD*
thinking Budapest was kind of literally a midpoint, in there?
Natasha!mun
*nods* I do, yeah.
You?
hawkinhisnest
*nod* yeah. like, I feel like their relationship was kind of... pre-Budapest, they were a good team and so on, and had started caring for each other to the point that faking being a couple was too easy, and so on. and then Budapest happened.
Natasha!mun
*NODS*
Yeah.
hawkinhisnest
so... if she was early 20s, and ScarJo is 27... that actually works for it feeling like it hasn't been that long and that it's been a while at the same time
Natasha!mun
Yep.
It's been, like ... five or six years. Ish.
hawkinhisnest
*nod*
Natasha!mun
Hooray, more accurate timeline thing?
hawkinhisnest
